The Things Around Us: Work in Progress Premiere

The Things Around Us: Work In-progress Premiere

The Things Around Us is a solo musical and narrative stage show by Ahamefule J. Oluo. A collection of seemingly unrelated stories and anecdotes swirl and dance with a live musical score created through looped and effected trumpet, clarinet, and drums. After two successful stage shows that relied on very personal, autobiographical storytelling and epic musical works for large ensembles, The Things Around Us inverts the formula with stories about other people, other places, and other times set to intimate solo soundscapes that seem to grow out of thin air--a reflection of, and a necessity caused by the forced isolation of the Covid 19 pandemic. Dark and humorous, uplifting and bleak, deep and silly, this work is about trying and failing to find order in chaos.
