Wa Na Wari is a Black-led space for Black people, Black art, and Black stories on the land of the Coast Salish People.
Allies are welcome, but we ask that you respect that priority and intention.
Please:
Respect boundaries: spatial, bodily, verbal.
Be a guest in this house and act accordingly.
Understand that educating white folks is not the focus or intention of this space: please don’t expect Black people in this space to explain the priority and intention of this space to you.
Understand that sometimes the space, or an event, may need to be for Black people only - allies respect those times and spaces without question or need for explanation.
Approach this space and the people in it ready to listen.
Think before you speak. This is a space for centering the experiences and voices of Black people.
Show your allyship through material support (in-kind and cash donations).
Take any discomfort you may feel about this agreement to a space where you can work it out with other non-Black people.

Allyship is an active, consistent, and arduous practice of unlearning and re-evaluating, in which a person in a position of privilege and power seeks to operate in solidarity with a marginalized group.
